Design and Navigation Features

The navigation design is one of the most important elements of a site.  Making sure people can get to all the site content as quickly as possible, using the most intuitive and logical structure, is vital to the success of most sites.

There are a number of different features of our CMS which can help you with this.  These are just a few, but if you have particular needs for your website design, then get in touch to discuss it with us.

Navigation to Any Level

Using flyout or expanding lists we enable the user to be able to navigate to any page in the site from any other page. With almost all pages being only one click away, visitors are much more likely to explore more areas of a site.

Breadcrumb Trails

Breadcrumb trails are very useful for letting site visitors know where they are in your site, particularly where you have multiple levels of navigation to reach a particular page. They also allow a user to quickly navigate back up a level as each item in the trail is a link.

The Pedlars website makes use of the breadcrumbs feature.

HTML Site Map

Providing a page that contains a simple representation of the layout of your site and links to all the pages in it helps to provide another route by which visitors can find what they are looking for.

Lists/Modules

A well designed site draws people in to visit key pages and access the content in a way that meets the goals of the business.

A simple yet effective tool to achieve this is a page module that displays a summary or extract of content from one page on another.

A common example of that is a news module, like the one here that you can also see on our home page.

This module automatically displays headlines of the latest news stories on the site - encouraging visitors to click through and read more. The content of the module is therefore dynamically created and changes whenever a new news story is published by the site editor.

However it doesn’t just have to be news stories – a module like this can carry any content from anywhere on your site.

A module, especially on the home page can have other benefits as well, especially in terms of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Pages with content that changes regularly are more likely to get indexed, and rank better, than static ones. So having a home page that changes every time you publish a news story helps your website’s visibility in search engines like Google.
