Defining the Requirements

The first step in building a successful new website is setting out the requirements in a way that creates a shared understanding between everybody involved of what the site will look like, what sort of content it will have, and what dynamic functionality is needed.

We will work with you to turn the initial brief into a full functional specification for the site, which includes defining the scope of the project in terms of:

  • Number of Page Layouts
  • Different types of Content to be used
  • Site Visitor Interactions
  • Animation or Transition Effects
  • Content Management and back end administration requirements

We will then be able to produce a fixed price proposal which will set out what we will deliver.  In most cases this will be broken down into:

Development

This is the time it takes us to set up the site, configure the templates and create the appropriate page types and any interactive site functionality.  It will also include any custom code for more unusual requirements.

Unless specifically included this does not cover populating the site with full and final content.  It is better that this is done by the eventual site administrators as it helps them to get to understand how to do it.

Hosting

Hosting fees cover the cost of the web servers on which the web site will be stored once it is live. Fees are variable based on the size of the site, expected visitor traffic, and for ecommerce sites, the number of anticipated sales.

Essentially the bigger the site and the more traffic it generates, the more you need to spend on hosting to ensure your visitors get quick reponse times and a smooth experience.

We provide hosting as an entirely optional service, however if you prefer to use an alternative hosting solution there may be a small additional one-off cost involved in making the site live.

Support

Once the site has gone live we can provide ongoing services to provide assistance, site administration help and training, fixing problems with content and making small changes to site functionality.

We provide this service using a flexible retained services model and will suggest a level of support approriate to the website.  The service is optional but is especially recommended for transactional or highly interactive sites, like online stores or where there is a lot of user generated content.

It enables us to do work on the site at very short notice without having to quote for each piece of work, then schedule it around our other commitments.

Next Step

All our proposals and the work we carry out are subject to a set of standard terms and conditions.

Once you have accepted our proposal and terms, we will begin Development
